Might the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Drive Bingo Players On to the Net?

[ English ]

An abundance has been stated in the papers recently about the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the cigarette ban in Britain. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive aid to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. But can the net adaptation of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or will it in no way compare to its land based opposite?

Bingo has been an ancient game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game recently had witnessed a recent return in popularity with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo halls in place of the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enacting of the smoking ban across UK.

No longer will gamblers be permitted to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public areas will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most common places where people enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlours. Profits have plunged and the industry is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Of course they have not deserted this established game?

The answer is on the web. Players are now realizing that they can play bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and fag and in the end, enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course wagering on on the net can never replace the social part of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left a number of bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
