Could the Smoking Ban in England Take Bingo Players On to the Internet?

A lot has been written in the papers not long ago concerning the bingo industry being hit as a result of the smoking ban in the UK. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However does the web adaptation of this classic game offer a salvation, or will it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar relative?

Bingo is an enduring game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had witnessed a recent increase in appeal with younger men and women deciding to go to the bingo parlours rather than the discos on a weekend. This is all about to change with the enacting of the smoking ban all over Britain.

Players will no longer be allowed to smoke whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public areas will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most common locations where folks like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the business is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Obviously they have not abandoned this classic game?

The answer is on the web. Gamblers are now realizing that they can wager on bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a beer and cig and in the end, have a chance at big jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course gambling on online could never replace the collective part of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of players the rules have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
