Much has been talked in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in England. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. However will the web version of this traditional game present a salvation, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar kin?
Bingo has been an age old game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had undergone a recent return in popularity with younger men and women deciding to go to the bingo parlors instead of the discos on a weekend. This is all about to be reversed with the enforcement of the smoking ban across UK.
Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite places where people like to smoke.
The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo halls. Players have dropped and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Obviously they have not forgotten this familiar game?
The answer is on the web. People realise that they can wager on bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and smoke and still have a chance at monstrous jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.
Of course gambling on on the web is unlikely to replace the communal portion of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the rules have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
